From 3rd to 5th Aug, I went to Tohoku with Mum, Okkasan and Ayako chan.

Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori.

Nebuta is made of Washi paper and wire frames.

Tried to catch the atmosphere of Nebuta Matsuri.

For the lighting, traditionally candles were used but nowadays little lamps (600 to 800!) are used with a generator.

Okka san and Ayako chan.

The total weight of Nebuta is about 4t!!!

Can you see the men below the Nebuta pushing?

Close up.

The tour conductor took this picture, blurred.

Next morning, got up early to go to the market but we went to see the sea first.

From the bus, tried to take the birches.

It was really difficult!

Oirase keiryu.

Blurred... Kudan no Taki.

Two of us in front of Kudan no taki.

Taken by the tour conductor.

Three beautiful women with Choushi Ohtaki.

I like this picture.

Nice too!

Drove up Oirase Keiryu to Towada ko and cruise for about 40 mins.

Towada ko is the 3rd deepest lake in Japan, more or less same height (depth) as Tokyo tower.

Lunch by Towada ko. (It was not so great. Had Inaniwa Udon.)

Biting a green apple bought in the morning market in Aomori.

View of Towada ko.

Same but a better view.

Now in Akita. All changed to Yukata.

Too close up... I wonder if the tour conductor was just bad at taking pictures?

Sat on the reserved seat (in the middle of the wide road) and waiting...

Japanese dance started.

Kanto is coming.

Proper Kanto is 12 metres high and 50 kg with 46 lanterns.

Each lantern has a candle inside.

This man holding Kanto on his shoulder.

You can see how tall the Kanto is by looking the traffic sign?

Is he holding Kanto with his forehead?

I realised most of the pictures of Kanto matsuri were taken in portrait.

3rd day: Went to Chusonji.

Chusonji is famous for Konjikido (golden hall).

Another one.

A view from Chusonji.

Next to Chusonji, there was Shrine too. Thatched roof building is Noh Stage.

Lunch at the bottom of Chusonji. Different types of Mochi (rice cakes). Quite nice!

On the way to Sendai airport where I said good bye to Mum.
